Lake Tahoe has everything from great health food cafes to 5-star restaurants. We will eventually circle the lake in search of the best food in every category...we know, tough work, but hey, that's just the way we are! In the mean time we will list a few of our favorites. These are not always the flashiest restaurants, but they are, in our opinion, the best. We live on the South Shore so that's what we know. In addition to our personal recommendations, we list a few links to sites that specialize in dining information. We cannot vouch for their taste or accuracy, but it's a place to start. You can help us in our quest to ferret out the best of Tahoe dining by emailing us and letting us know where you went and what you thought! Good luck and good eat'n.

South Shore Dining Recommendations:

Sprouts: 3127 Harrison Ave. at Tallac St. Excellent vegetarian and health food. A little on the pricey side, but well worth it!

Cantina: 765 Emerald Bay Rd, 1/2 mile north of the Y. Good solid Mexican food in a friendly, casual atmosphere. Good value.

Taqeria Jalisco: Off Lake Tahoe Blvd. behind Rojos Bar. Authentic Mexican food, hole-in-the-wall atmosphere with friendly people.

Scuza on Ski Run: 1142 Ski Run Blvd. The best Italian cuisine on the South Shore in a classy setting. Very reasonable prices for high quality food and service. Good wine list too!

Edgewood: At the Edgewood Golf Course behind the Horizon Casino. First rate food and service with million dollar views. High cuisine, excellent wine list, not cheap!

Eagle's Nest: Top of Kingsbury Grade then south on Ridge Road. Nice views, variety of excellent food, good service. Music on weekends. Mid-priced.

The Beacon: Camp Richardson Resort off 89 north. Food is OK, prices are a bit high, but you can't beat the view.

Lake Tahoe Pizza Company: Highway 50 just west of the Y. Great pizza in a classic Tahoe atmosphere.

Mandarin Garden: Highway 50 just before Sierra Blvd. Best Chinese food on the South Shore. A little pricey, but worth the extra few dollars.

Earnies: Highway 50 just west of the the Y. One of the locals favorite coffee shops.

Taj Majal: Highway 50 next to the Super 8. Tahoe's only Indian food restaurant. Not superior, but definitely passable.
